Here we have a very nice Upmarket French Flintlock pistol, intended for a gentleman or perhaps an officer. It is marked on the lock plate and top of the barrel by maker Paul Montmain, a French gunsmith based in the city of Saint tienne. He worked from 1710 to 1745, and was succeeded by his son Jean Baptiste Montmain, who worked until 1759. The pistol is definitely well decorated, with engraving on the lock plate,
